Issues and Approaches to Rural Water Crisis in Karnataka: An Evaluation of Jal Nirmal Project

Abstract :

Emerging trends in India’s population has also led to various problems and the most pertinent is the problem of water and sanitation. A number of villages, towns and cities have been facing severe water crisis and ample number of government schemes are trying to cater to the demand of water supply and one such important scheme is the Jal Nirmal Project which is a World Bank assisted programme. It has set an encouraging trend of reforms in the sector of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in the state. This paper makes an attempt to give a birds eye-view on the implementation, nature and achievements of the most ambitious water project in North Karnataka.
