Rhizobium radiobacter: Another cause for hospital acquired bacteraemia in the immunocompetent patients

Abstract :

<p>&lt;p&gt;&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Introduction&amp;amp;amp;ndash;Rhizobium radiobacter,a small, non&amp;amp;amp;ndash;spore forming, Gram&amp;amp;amp;ndash;negative aerobic bacillus, rarely behaves as an&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;opportunistic human pathogen causing bacteremia, endocarditis and peritonitis.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Case presentation&amp;amp;amp;ndash;We report a case of R. radiobacter bacteremia in an immunocompetent chronic asthmatic patient complicated with acute&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;corpulmonale. Before isolation and identification of the pathogen by both conventional and automated methods the patient was empirically&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;treated with antibiotics along with other supportive treatments. In spite of this the patient expired before getting the adequate doses of specific&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;antibiotics,.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Conclusion&amp;amp;amp;ndash;As Rhizobium radiobacter causes fatal infection especially in immunocompromised patients due to their drug resistant nature;&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;prompt diagnosis along with early treatment is needed to save life of the patient.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;</p>
