A CLINICOMYCOLOGICAL PROFILE OF DERMATOPHYTOSES IN TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL IN WESTERN U.P

Abstract :

<p>&lt;p&gt;&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;Background: Dermatophytoses are commonly encountered fungal diseases prevalent in most parts of theworld&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;especially in tropical countries. It is a superficial mycotic infection affecting hair, skin and nails.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Aims &amp;amp;amp;amp; objectives:The present study was carried out to determine the incidence of dermatophytoses and their etiological agent in different age&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;groups attending the Dermatology department.Materials &amp;amp;amp;amp; Methods: A total of 178 samples from skin department were processed by direct KOH&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;preparation &amp;amp;amp;amp; fungal culture methods. Identification of the species was doneby Lactophenol Cotton Blue mount from colony.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Results: Our study shows that males 52 (63.41%) are more infected than females30 (36.58%). Tinea corporis was thecommonest clinical type 38&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;(46.34%).The positivity rate of Potassium Hydroxide preparation is 61.23% and of culture is 46.06%.The commonest fungal isolate isTrichophyton&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;species (51.72%), followed by Microsporum (39.92%) and Epidermophyton species 6(7.31 %)&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;Conclusion: Male have higher fungal infection rate than females. Trichophyton ruum is the common isolate inour geographical area. KOH&amp;amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt; &amp;amp;lt;div&amp;amp;gt;preparation has higher positivity rate than cultue.&amp;amp;lt;/div&amp;amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;&lt;/p&gt;</p>
