Assessment of Pollution Load from worship remains disposal (Nirmalya Visarjan) in River Narmada and Need for Eco-friendly Pujan Ghats

Abstract :

<p>&nbsp;Water is the basis of life and probably the most essential requirement of economic growth and social development&nbsp;</p> <div>(Takashi et. al., 2009). Narmada is considered as life line for the State of Madhya Pradesh. Assessments of river water&nbsp;</div> <div>quality have been done by various agencies and it is found that being the purest river of India is facing threat to its water&nbsp;</div> <div>quality. The list of pollutants is endless which includes domestic waste. Festivals are very important and heartiest to every person of India (Rai&nbsp;</div> <div>Basant, 2013) and organic pollutants and chemicals are being discharged into the river during religious activities. An attempt has been made to&nbsp;</div> <div>assess the biomass load in the river due to sewage and worship remains disposal in Mandla and Jabalpur Districts. It is pertinent to note that, the&nbsp;</div> <div>pollution load due to worship remains (Nirmalya) disposal is significant and to be addressed to prevent the river pollution. Specific pujan ghats&nbsp;</div> <div>are required to be constructed in every city/town for the environmental management of the Nirmalya.</div>
