Study on Serum Bone Minerals Level in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract :

<p>&nbsp;Diabetes mellitus represents a group of diseases of heterogeneous etiology, characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and other metabolic abnormalities, which are due to deficiency of insulin effect. Evidence for a disturbance of mineral metabolism in diabetes has accumulated since the eighties of the last decade. In the present study, a total of 40 cases and 25 controls were studied. A sample of venous blood was collected from each individuals included in this study. The present study shows that the diabetic type 2 patients have higher serum calcium levels, and lower magnesium levels compared to healthy individuals, while serum phosphate level was not affected.</p>
