Abstract :

Background: Esthetic enhancement of smile requires an interdisciplinary approach to understand the shift of nasolabial angle on posed smile from that of rest and the concomitant change in the central zone of smile. Aim: To determine the influence of nasolabial angle shift on different components of central zone of smile. Materials and Methods: Standardized photographs from 235 volunteers irrespective of age and sex were taken from Department of Orthodontics, Burdwan Dental College & Hospital, and the images were analyzed in computer by using ImageJ software. Statistical analysis used: Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients (rho) were calculated for NLA Shift and different components of central zone of smile. Results: There was existence of excellent correlation between nasolabial angle shift and different factors of smile. Conclusion: Present study indicates that central papilla display and tooth surface display within central zone of smile have excellent correlation with nasolabial angle shift.
