Practice of oral hygiene in rural Uttar Pradesh

Abstract :

<p>&nbsp;OBJECTIVE The study was conducted with an objective to assess the practice of oral hygiene in the rural areas between Lucknow and Kanpur. MATERIAL AND METHOD &nbsp;Villages between Lucknow and Kanpur were randomly selected for the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used as a survey tool. Oral health check-up camps were organised within the village premises, audio-visual aids and pamphlets were used to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene habits. The study was conducted in two phases, the data was compiled and analysed separately. RESULTS A large number of participants used toothpaste as a dentifrice but ushed once a day. A number of participants used tobacco based pastes and charcoal powder to clean their teeth in phase 1, however this number dropped in phase 2, showing the impact of awareness campaigns. CONCLUSION Oral hygiene habits and oral health awareness needs to be improved among the villager</p>
