Abstract :

Survey of Godavari river water from its origin at Trimbakeshwar (Nashik) to Nanded the river end of Maharashtra state is carried out to know the present status of water and its quality, topography of areas, degradation areas, pollution, man made construction and other activities in Godavari river valley. Identification of water flow, human intervention and inflow of industrial waste water is carried out after selecting locations for impact assessment. The seasonal study on spatial variations on water quality parameters and its temporal trend and the violations over prescribed water quality standards helps to know the impact of lotic environment on the diversity of flora and fauna in different locations and helps to identify options and development of models to be adopted for the restoration of threatened species to enrich its wild population. However, participatory approach in the management of the water body is desirable.
