A Haematological Profile of Malaria Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Jamnagar District

Abstract :

Malaria is still a scrooge consuming more than 2 million lives throughout the world. With change in epidemiology, genetic perturbations & vector characteristic along with P.Falciparum , P.Vivax cases also presents with complicated malaria leading to increased mortality. The aim of this study was to study the various hematological changes occurring during the course of malarial fever. Henceforth, a cross sectional study was carried out in a tertiary care Teaching hospital on patients hospitalized due to malaria with no other systemic illness during the study period of 2 years from 2010 to 2012. Results: In present study 35.45% patients were infected by P.falciparum, 54.54% were infected with P. Vivax, 10% patients were infected by both species. In this study 45.45% patients had thrombocytopenia.
