The relationship between Self-esteem and Teacher effectiveness of Pre-service teachers

Abstract :
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-align: justify;line-height:150%;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">This study examines the relationship between self-esteem and teacher effectiveness of Pre-service teachers who are studying second year D.El.Ed., <span style="color:#231F20">The relationships among three<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>components of Self-esteem (</span></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi">Control and Personal Responsibility, Belonging and Acceptance, Competence</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:#231F20">) and five factors of teacher effectiveness (</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:black">Preparation of Teaching and Planning, Classroom Management, Knowledge of Subject Matter, Teacher Characteristics, Interpersonal Relations</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:#231F20">) were investigated.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;letter-spacing:-.35pt">In the current study the investigator followed normative survey method.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Arial Unicode MS";color:black">The present study consists of 342 P</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;letter-spacing:-.35pt">re-service teachers is</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; mso-fareast-font-family:"Arial Unicode MS";color:black"> selected from </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">one government, two government aided and 13 self-financing institutes in the Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";mso-fareast-font-family:"Arial Unicode MS"; color:black">by adopting Purposive sampling technique. </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:black">The instrumentsfor data collection were Self-Esteem Assessment Scale (SEAS) (constructed by the investigator and research supervisor) and Teacher Effectiveness Scale (TES) 2017 (constructed by the investigator and research supervisor).</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"">The findings indicated that there is a close relationship between self-esteem and teacher effectiveness.<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>The low level of Self-esteem Pre-service teachers’ possess low level of teacher effectiveness and high level of Self-esteem Pre-service teachers’ possess high level of teacher effectiveness. The findings also showed that there is a positive correlation between all the factors of Self-Esteem and Teacher Effectiveness of Pre-service teachers.</span><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi"><o:p></o:p></span></i></p>
