Prospective analysis of outcomes of operated subaxial cervical spine injuries

Abstract :

<p>&nbsp;<b style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family:&quot;Calii&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;">Introduction:</span></b><span style="text-align: justify; font-family: Calii, sans-serif;"> Depression is highly prevalent causing significant loss of quality of life and social functioning and also one of the risk factor for suicidal behavior. Identifying biomarker predictors of suicide risk helps us for early intervention. Literature review identifies low lipid profile as a predictor for depression. Results: moderate depression as indicated by average HMRSD scores 19.19&plusmn;3.37 was predominant in depressive case group. Fourty three depressive cases with history of&nbsp;&nbsp; suicidal attempt had varying degree of suicidal intent on becks suicidal intent scale (Low: 8; Medium: 16 and High: 19).</span><span style="font-family:&quot;Calii&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;"> Average serum lipid total cholesterol (TC) showed statistical significant low concentration in case group in comparison to healthy controls at p value &lt; 0.001. Significant negative correlation was observed depressive symptoms (HMRSD) scores </span><span style="font-family:&quot;Calii&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;color:windowtext">and TC, LDL-C scores. Negative correlation and lower levels of Triacylglycerol (TAG) and Total Cholesterol (TC) was also observed in depressive subjects with suicidal intent based on severity of intent than suicidal non intenders. Medium and high suicidal intenders showed statistically significant low levels of average Total Cholesterol (TC) compared to non- intenders of suicide. <b>Conclusion:</b></span><span style="font-family:&quot;Calii&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;"> Lower total cholesterol levels is a highly significant biomarker for identification of depression and also a factor to predict severity and suicidal intent in depression&nbsp; followed by Low TAG&nbsp; and LDL-C levels in younger age group in case group.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
