Abstract :

Every person in the world has already said or listened the phrase: ‘‘On Monday I will begin’’. This statement can be used to begin a diet, gym regimen, or in the study case the practice of physical activity. So, to test if the myth of Monday really interferes with the physical activity patterns, it was hypothesized that there is the influence of the myth of Monday in physical activity patterns. This study was conducted to evaluate the seasonal, the frequency, and the days of the week effects on physical activity. Data were obtained over the five days of the same week in each month of the year. After a year of experiments 3732 people were counted practicing physical exercise. Among the main activities it was observed that walking, running, and cycling are among the top outdoor practices. Monday and the first days of the week are between the days when more people engage in physical activity. This is the first research study to compare weekdays influence over physical activity patterns, other studies showed some evidence of a seasonal influence.
