Study of association of leptin and insulin resistance markers in patients of PCOS

<p> </p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph;line-height:150%"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)<span class="apple-style-span"><span style="background:white">the most common endocrine disorder , PCOS may present with hirsutism, acne,<span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>excessive androgen production, menstrual disturbances and subsequently, anovulation and infertility. <o:p></o:p></span></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:150%"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size: 12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";color:#231F20">Leptin, a peptide hormone secreted from adipose tissue.</span><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"; color:black"> Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia may also be factors that affect serum leptin levels.Aim of this study is to evaluate the </span><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">association of leptin and insulin resistance markers in patients of PCOS.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;margin-right:-16.5pt; mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto;text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph; line-height:150%"><u><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">SUBJECT AND METHOD:</span></u><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Sixty diagnosed cases of PCOS were enrolled in this study after informed written consent. The patients were diagnosed as PCOS as per Rotterdam criteria<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;text-justify:inter-ideograph; line-height:150%"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%; font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">All <span style="mso-spacerun:yes"> </span>routine biochemical investigation were done.Insulin resistance was estimated using the homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and HOMA-beta.
