INCIDENCE OF DENTAL FLOUROSIS AMONG THE PATIENTS VISITING OUR INSTITUTE - A PROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract :

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-align:&#10;justify;line-height:normal;mso-layout-grid-align:none;text-autospace:none"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;color:#231F20;&#10;mso-bidi-font-style:italic">This prospective study was carried out to find out the incidence of dental fluorosis among the patientsvisiting our institute during the months of January 2017 to December 2017. Total 3047 patients were seen in our department. Patients presented clinical dental fluorosis were separated and classified according to Dean&rsquo;s Index of scoring dental fluorosis. The incidence of dental fluorosis was 9.68 % (295 patients,</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,&quot;serif&quot;;color:#231F20">162<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>males and 133 females<span style="mso-bidi-font-style:&#10;italic">) being higher in males than in females.</span>64 (21.69%) showed very mild, 51(17.28 %) showed mild, 107(36.27 %) showed moderate, and 73 (24.74%) showed severe <span style="mso-bidi-font-style:italic">dental fluorosis. Main aim of our study was to highlight the effects of high fluoride levels in drinking water in these areas and ing the attention of educated community and responsible authorities towards serious health issue.</span><o:p></o:p></span></p>
