A STUDY BETWEEN CORRELATION OF PLASMA HOMOCYTEINE LEVELS WITH BMI IN FEMALES WITH TYPE2 DIABETES

Abstract :

In order to determine whether body-mass index vary with <span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp;</span>plasma homocysteine concentrations<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>in patients with type II diabetes, we measured plasma homocysteine in lean, normal weight, and overweight females living in India.<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p style="margin-top:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:.2in;margin-left:0in;&#10;line-height:18.0pt;background:#FAFAFA"><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-size:18.0pt;&#10;font-family:&quot;Calii&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:&#10;minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:Calii;mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin;&#10;color:#333333">Plasma homocysteine concentrations were significantly lower in<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">&nbsp; </span>lean females with diabetes when compared to those females who were obese and compared to control subjects (<em><span style="font-family:&quot;Calii&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;&#10;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:Calii;mso-bidi-theme-font:&#10;minor-latin">p</span></em>&nbsp;&lt; 0.02). We have concluded that plasma homocysteine concentrations are lower in lean females with type II diabetes and that this efficiency in homocysteine metabolism may contribute in protection from cardiovascular disease.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
