Radiological evaluation of hydrocephalus in pediatric patients Total 50 patients of 6 months duration.

Abstract :

<p>&nbsp;<b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;&#10;mso-fareast-font-family:Calii">INTRODUCTION:</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"> Hydrocephalus is characterized by imbalance of cereospinal fluid (CSF) formation and absorption which causes dilatation of the ventricular system. The diagnosis is done by Ultrasonography (USG), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) images. <b>AIMS AND OBJECTIVES : </b>To evaluate the role of USG, CT scan &amp; MRI scan in diagnosis</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">, t</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">o compare the sensitivity, specificity &nbsp;&nbsp;and&nbsp; analyze &nbsp;advantages and limitations in identification and characterization of hydrocephalus</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;"> <b>METHOD : </b>Selected &nbsp;cases are pediatric patients having hydrocephalus identified radiologically. Out of these 20 were age of&nbsp; &lt; 1 year and 30 were age of 1 to 12 years.</span><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 200%;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Each patient would undergo relevant study. <b>RESULTS: </b>C</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">ommon reason of hydrocephalus &lt; 1 year is Intraventricular haemorrhage and aqueduct stenosis whereas in children &gt; 1 year is due to meningitis/meningoencephalitis. </span><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;&#10;line-height:200%;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;mso-fareast-font-family:&#10;Calii">CONCLUSION: </span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;, serif;">Among all examinations MRI has the best diagnostic value due to excellent quality images.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:200%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:200%;&#10;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
