T2DM affects insulin resistance (IR), glucose effectiveness (GE), and first- and second-phase insulin secretion (FPIS and SPIS, respectively). ϒ-glutamyltransferase (ϒ-GT), an inflammatory marker, is related to IR, but whether ϒ-GT is related to FPIS, SPIS, or GE is unclear. We investigated the associations of ϒ-GT with these four factors. We noted that ϒ-GT positively correlates with IR, SPIS, and FPIS, and negatively correlates with GE in young population without diabetes (18-27 years, 23188 men and 29230 wom<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 200%; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">en). GE is most tightly related to ϒ-GT (<span style="mso-bidi-font-size:12.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">r<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 200%; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;"> = -0.375 for men, r =-0.176 for women). GE should not be overlooked in both sexes.

<span style="mso-bidi-font-size:12.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">
