Abstract :

<span style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Secondary traumatic stress (STS) is when a individual suffers from emotional distress that results directly by hearing the first hand trauma experiences of another. STS imitate the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Neurolinguistic Programming, or NLP, provides a practical way in which one can change the way of thinking, their view on past events, and approach to the life. <span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:200%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Objectives:<span style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">1.<span style="text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%; font-family: "Times New Roman", serif;">To identify the level of secondary traumatic stress among nurses.2.To determine the effectiveness of ). Neurolinguistic programming on secondary traumatic stress among nurses with their socio demographic variables. Methodology: A quasi experimental research design was adopted for the study. The study was conducted among 60 nurses in a selected tertiary care hospital, Nellore. Non probability convenience sampling technique was adopted to select the samples .Pretest was conducted by using secondary traumatic stress scale and NLP wheel of life. For 21 days Neurolingiuistic programming-visual kinesthetic technique was given and after one week posttest was conducted by using the same tool. The data was analyzed by Descriptive and inferential statistics by using SPSS -15. Results: The study revealed that among 60 nurses, in determining the effectiveness of NLP- visual kinesthetic technique in experimental group, in relation to the level of STS, in pretest 2(6.7%) had mild STS, 16(53.3%) had moderate STS, 12(40%) had severe STS where as in posttest 14(46.7%) had mild STS, 10(33.3%) had moderate STS, 6(20%) had severe STS. In control group in relation to the STS, in pretest 4(13.4%) had mild STS, 10(33.3%) had moderate STS, 16(53.3%) had severe stress where as in posttest 5(16.7%) had mild STS, 9(30%) had moderate STS, 16(53.3%) had severe STS. In the NLP wheel of life scale there was significant difference on the pretest and post test mean score. Conclusion: Majority of the nurses had high level of secondary traumatic stress. NLP- visual kinesthetic technique was effective in reducing the level of secondary traumatic stress.

<span style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:200%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">
