Growth Studies of Murrah Buffaloes Under Intensive Rearing System in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh

Abstract :

Growth pattern in Murrah buffaloe calves from birth to 18months of age under intensive rearing system was studied in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.10 years data were collected from the Annual Reports of Buffalo Research Station, VRGudem since 2001upto 2011.The overall mean body weights (kg) of male and female buffaloe calves at birth, 3,6,12 and 18months of age were 33.42±.52, 31.59±0.83; 67.57±1.54, 62.55±1.53; 105.02±1.5, 96.71±1.04; 199.70±1.85, 184.12±2.14; 184.12±2.14, 282.96±4.16 and 254.05±4.58 respectively. The overall mean body weight gain (grams/day) from birth to 3; 3– 6; 6 – 12; 12– 18 months were 374.41, 344.00; 416.11, 379.55; 526.00, 485.61; 462.55, 388.50 and 457.87, 408.18. A significant difference (P<0.05) in body weights of male and female were observed at 3,6,12 and18 months of age. Similarly the gain in body weight of male and female buffaloes were significant (P<0.05) at 3 to 6months of age and 6 to 12 months of age
